FOTONOW CIC is a South West UK based Community Interest Company. Creative directors Jonathan Blyth and Matthew Pontin are experienced photographic practitioners, teachers and college lecturers. Through FOTONOW they create new opportunities in photography and facilitate socially motivated projects in lens-based culture throughout the South West of England.

Participants involved with FotoFlash workshops in Barne Barton headed into Plymouth city centre this weekend to explore the Sinopticon exhibitions at the museum and arts centre. Young people had the chance to discuss the work with Hannah Guy and George Bull who are leading on these sessions for FotoNow.

FotoNow Director Hannah Guy spent last weekend at Penzance Convention thanks to a bursary from PVAC. The weekend allowed some interesting research, field trips (image here from visit to a mine) and conversations to take place. Hannah returned to FotoNow with some new contacts and ideas to put into future action.

FOTONOW work on ‘Take a Shot’ project continues with film-making and photography workshops in Ernesettle. The sessions are leading towards a final film exploring life growing up in this community, which will be screened during a celebration event later in the Summer.

University College Plymouth MARJON media students put together a showcase event at Plymouth Royal Corinthian Yacht Club this evening. The culmination of a semester of work with FOTONOW team supporting the development of ideas exploring the notion of community.

‘Take a Shot’ photography and film project continued this week with James Ellwood leading on session with young people in Ernesettle. The project was developed by Barefoot as a means to engage individuals that might not normally have an opportunity to work on creative media projects within their community.

Education work in Barne Barton continues with community group putting new photography skills to work in capturing images of where they live and building an archive of the work. Embark: Ferry Art season of exhibitions (curated by Charlotte Williams and Anna Cattermole) continues with show titled ‘Floating Pause’ by Lorraine Bacchus which will run until the end of May. If in the Feock or Roseland areas then the works can be seen when travelling on the chain ferry.

FOTONOW is supporting photographer Tim Pearse in offering a fortnight-long residency at Plymouth City Market where he will use a vacant shop space to create a portrait studio to record people that work and shop in the market. The camera offers the chance to create larger than life 20x24inch negatives which reveal superb detail of those willing to sit for a portrait.

FOTONOW’s workshops with young people in Barne Barton rolls onwards with the group visiting Plymouth’s ‘Wildlife Photographer of the year’ competition and discussing the show with project artist Hannah Guy. The sessions are developing the group’s skills in photography with a view to individual’s gaining their Arts Award later this year.
